Hi! My name is Tommy van Thiel and I am 21 years old. This year, I am the Chairman of the XLIInd STAR Board. After growing up in a village called Bilthoven, I moved to Rotterdam where I started my Bachelor International Business Administration at the Rotterdam School of Management. As a commissioner of commercial relations for both the IBA Freshmen Weekend as well as the Race of the Classics, I got to know STAR as organisation. Moreover, in my second year, I was a working student at Deloitte. After my exchange semester to Hong Kong, it was time for something new. That is when I decided to take on this challenge and apply for the STAR Board. During this year, I have had the chance to experience what it means to be responsible for an association with over 6,500 members, in good and bad times. Also, I had the opportunity to improve my (conflict) management skills and organise events.
As Chairman of the XLIInd STAR Board, I am responsible for supporting my fellow board members and monitoring the long-term strategy of STAR. Besides, I am responsible for maintaining a good relationship with RSM. Also, I supervised this year’s Case Society, Case Competition and Sustainability Forum committee.
